I believe in Second Chances
Share This Essay:
“America’s greatest strength, and its greatest weakness, is our belief in second chances, our belief that we can always start over, that things can be made better.”
-Anthony Walton
When was the last time you have seen somebody get a second chance? I got one a couple of weeks ago. That is what I believed before this incident with baseball.
It was the first day of school baseball tryouts. I tried to keep calm as the day slowly ticked by. The day finally ended and I slowly walked down the stairwell to the boy’s locker room. I slowly fumbled on my shirt and slid on my baseball pants ready for the tryout. The tryout went well at the beginning, but when I had to make a hard throw something horrible happened. The ball was released out through my fingers and a pain ran up my hand and made my whole hand go numb. The throw barely went half way to first base. The day after that, I dropped out of tryouts.
A week later I was awarded a second chance. The doctor told me that I could keep playing. I pitched three weeks later and kept going with the sport even through injury. I learned a new lesson after that day. I learned that only good people deserve a second chance. Many people are caught for doing crimes every day. There are only a few hopeful people who have a heart or a piece of good in them.
Many people can debate this and believe in different views, I believe in what I am saying. About 4% of the people in death row get released. I believe that those people will live the rest of their lives in peace and happiness. I believe in second chances but only for those who have a heart to believe in one. If you can think about a time when someone you know got a second chance you know they must have a heart
