Untold Lessons
Share This Essay:
Untold lessons are the best kind; these are the ones that no one teaches. I’ve learned so much throughout my childhood and will continue to learn as I get older by paying attention to the things nobody is trying to say.
The main way these lessons are taught is through actions, not words. For example, yesterday as I was taking my dog on a walk to the lake, I noticed many people gathered for various things such as birthdays or family get-togethers. They were laughing and spending time with one another. This made me think of my own family. It is important to stay close to them and make sure they know you’re always there for them.
One person who has taught me many lessons is my older brother, Eric. He’s a role model to me because he always tries his hardest, and I look up to him in more ways than he knows. I watch the things he does, like when he trains his police dog. He is strict but loving which makes his dog obedient because it wants to be, not because it has to. I also watch how he treats people because I’ve never met a person who dislikes him. I can remember when he came home from Iraq and woke me up just past midnight to give me a hug and tell me he loved me. He made me feel so special and in that moment and many others, I decided I wanted to be like him.
Another thing I have noticed is that he is almost always in a good mood, which can put everyone else in a good mood as well. When I’m upset he takes the time to make me smile, I love this about him. He is one of the most caring people I know. Just by being around him, I have learned that I need to take the time to help other people and go out of my way to do so. He came on a bike trip with my class at school and my chain got caught up and the pedals wouldn’t move. I pulled my bike off to the side to allow everyone to pass, but I didn’t know how to fix the chain. I looked up and my brother was biking back the way he had came to me even though he should have kept going. He put himself aside in order to help me. He didn’t know he was teaching me anything, but that’s why I believe in untold lessons. They are real life things and ways to live. They can’t be taught, you have to pick them up on your own.
