Relgion: fact or fiction?
Share This Essay:
I believe we are all creatures of habit, and product of our environment determined to venture towards any organization that offers a way to shed light on unanswerable questions. The natural path from that point is to then conform to the life style that organization puts forth. I was not raised in an overly religious home or that of a sports fanatic. I’ve never had unconditional faith, which makes me see the world in a different light.
I believe that religion is yet another way to label one’s self. We’re all looking for some common ground in which right vs. wrong, divine vs. common, and good vs. evil are clearly defined.
I am not god fearing, however I am not atheist. The word “God” for my benefit is not religious, but a figment of our own imagination that attempts to give us a mold in which to live by. We are all stumbling into an awkward quest to find ourselves. Religion is not the key. This I believe.
The key is to live life to it’s fullest. Who’s to say one man’s vision of God superior to another? Christiatnly. Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Animism, and thousands of other religions claim there way is the right way. Why? The various churches, “my way or the highway” attitude has led me down a long road that I’m well aware I will not find the answer too in my lifetime. People are people. Animals are animals. We live, we die, and then none of us know the progression from that point. No human word is gospel, no concepts correct; we are just proposing a possible solution to a question that has been itching the human mind since the beginning of time. Who are we, where did we come from, and what is our purpose?
Religion and other coping methods of finding ourselves are ways to give answers to the unknown. Why strive to fit a certain mold that others have created? Those who attempt to be perfect are idealists; however those who do not wish to be perfect are slackers. Those that have strong opinions are extremists; however those who have no opinions are dimwitted. Those who have faith are naïve; however those who do not are cynical. There is no way to fit a mold comfortably unless it is solely one’s own. This I believe. Words have no meaning, beliefs any validity, and the activities we take part in do not define us. We are afraid to be nothing, however, that’s all we are. Personal happiness is all we can achieve, and that should be the overwhelming goal of all religious, societal and other persona seeking groups.
If happiness means applying a label to yourself than do what you must. However, if you are capable of being happy accepting the unknown as the unknown, then you believe what I believe.
