Why Shouldn’t I Believe in God?
Share This Essay:
For my entire life I have been raised to believe in Jesus Christ. I am a Christian. A Christian is a follower of Christ. Believing in Christ is easy but still that is only the first step. Being a religious person, I am still not required to believe everything about my religion. I am still free to choose my beliefs. Believe it or not I get a lot of trouble from a lot of people when I stick up for my religion. I am extremely careful not to push my beliefs onto anyone else but some people can be over defensive. If it is none of my business to tell anyone what to believe, but it is none of anyone else’s business to tell me that what I believe in is wrong.
From the smallest atom to the largest universe, I believe that life is so vast that there is never any way we as human beings will ever understand it all. We might have many theories that sound very plausible and might very well be correct, but once again those are just theories, unproven thoughts. So you can say that Christianity is a theory if it makes you feel any better. If this essay is asking me to spill some thoughts onto what may display life’s big picture and some life guiding rules, I can say “I believe that there is a God”.
Believing in God has no negative effects on my life whatsoever except for what some atheists may think of me. I wake up to a new day every morning full of opportunities. I am grateful for what I have in life and smile upon the fact that I am not selfish, in fact I can be very generous at times. I have a lot of love to give to everyone who needs it and to those who don’t need it. All of this I am proud to say was largely inspired by the religion I grew up with. When I pray I am not “begging the invisible for more” I am usually praying for someone who is struggling in some way, whether it be someone homeless who hasn’t eaten in a few days, or whether it is an older brother who is risking his life out in the battle fields of Iraq fighting for his family, and yes I believe that miracles happen all the time in all places.
If I am right or if I am wrong it doesn’t matter. I enjoy the thought of heaven and I do not see why anyone wouldn’t want to believe in an afterlife where they could be with their family they love so much for the rest of eternity. If it doesn’t exist, does it hurt that much to believe in it?
Even while I believe in God I can still be open minded to many things in this wide world of ours. I can look at other people and cultures around the world and still appreciate them. Just because I am a Christian doesn’t mean that I have to be solipsistic. Once again you can be a realist and be a Christian, there are no boundaries.
I believe that living in God has no way of causing more suffering from someone’s death, in fact it can only cause more comfort. God, church, and the Bible all help people believe more in their family, in love, truth, beauty, sex and things that we all can and can’t prove.
So no matter what thoughts you have, what things you believe in, no matter how you live your life. Those decisions will always belong to you and only you. As for myself, I believe in Jesus Christ with all of my heart and nothing that anyone ever says and does can shake my faith!
