Hugs Last A Lifetime
Share This Essay:
I believe in hugs. A hug is something so simple but yet it can have so much power. An affectionate movement, only lasting a few seconds, can brightensomeone’s day. It can change someone’s outlook on that particular day. It can change their attitude and feelings, while establishing an instant connection that can speak volumes.
The most common type of hug is one shared among friends. The passing of each other in the hallway can result in a hug. These are the hugs that get after finally seeing a friend after being a few days apart. That brief moment while hugging a person lets someone know that someone cares and is thinking of him/her. There have been several instances where I have been in a bad mood and a simple hug from a friend, not only made me smile but positively changed my day. It is that simple letting someone know they are thinking of you that truly matters. Everyone wants to feel loved. A hug can create that feeling.
Secondly, there is that hug that you get from your family. These are the ones that you get from your great grandma who is not only ten times your age but also smells like the moth balls in her garage. These are the ones you get from your mom when you have sat and cried your eyes out for hours over a heartbreak. “He’s just not good enough” she’d say, while rocking you back and forth in her arms. Or these are the hugs that you get from your father after being read a bedtime story and before being tucked into bed for the night. These hugs help spread the love among two people. This is not the intimate love but the love that shared among family members. This is the love that you know is always there. These hugs are what seal the deal and reassure this love.
Thirdly, there is a hug from someone more than a friend. Perhaps it’s from a crush, boyfriend/girlfriend, husband or wife. Most of the time, in this particular situation, these intimate hugs last for more than a few seconds. Whether it be from a simple crush or a deeper relationship, that skin-to-skin contact can make one jitter inside. One may begin to get butterflies. Something so simple and effortless can establish a deeper, more intimate mood. It can be a perfect transition movement into a kiss, which is yet again, another simple sign of affection.
Hugs are simple but effective. They are often a courteous act to perform. They often set the mood, change someone’s attitude or let someone know they are thinking of them. Everyone hugs on another or has received hugs at some point in their lives. This common, effortless movement can do so much. People perform these jesters without thinking twice about doing so. They can have such an impact on someone’s day. Hugs are changing the world, one person at a time.
