The Freeriders Dream
Share This Essay:
Since I was a kid growing up in south central Alaska I’ve always been told I was
never good enough. I’d never be fast enough or have enough skill to accomplish anything
I wanted. That’s the way it always was, until I turned about 13 years old. Around that
time I started getting into sports that required more dedication and commitment; this
began to rapidly consume my entire life. I started forgetting what everyone thought and
focused more on doing what I do. I believe that the bigger you go the better you’ll
become.
In my most recent couple years I’ve concentrated on furthering my skills in
freeride mountain biking. Riding has become my way of life. When I can get out there,
my bike and I become one. The more I train and the more I practice the more success I
achieve. These days it’s all based on competition. Whoever goes the biggest, rides the
fastest, and can handle the most technical terrain takes it all. I’ve learned you’ve got to
push your limits to in order to obtain what you want.
I guess in a way I feel I have something to prove, but I still keep riding about me,
not someone else. I want to push myself, develop new accomplishments, and stay true to
the idea of the original freerider. Sticking with this I will get better, and I will achieve
greatness. Riding is my thing, as long as I am capable I will keep shredding with the
gnarliest steeze you could ever imagine.
