Which Came First, The Chicken or The Egg

Chickens are from eggs, but eggs are from chickens, making it difficult to say which one came first. From ancient time until now, philosophers and scientists have been discussing contradictory questions about the chicken and the egg: which one came first? However, they never get an answer; likewise, they never get an answer about how life and the universe in general began. One of the classic arguments for the existence of God is known as the “Cosmological Argument” or “First Cause” argument. It works from the premise that every natural event is the effect of a cause. If this is so, then the events that caused today’s events must have had causes themselves, which must have had causes, and so on. If the chain never ends, then one must uphold the hypothesis of an ”actual infinite.” If the chain does end, it must end with a non-natural or supernatural cause at the start of the natural world-a creation by God.

The Big Bang theory states that it was the start of both space and time. Then, the question is; “What was there before the Universe?” The answer makes no sense. Asking what occurred before the Big Bang is like asking what is north of the North Pole. A question related to this argument is which came first, the chicken or the egg? This is a contradiction. This makes me feel like Alice at the teaparty. She hears, “Jam yesterday and jam tomorrow, but never jam today.” Since every tomorrow eventually becomes today as the future turns into present, and past is gone forever, the result is that poor Alice will never have jam. This phrase was from the story; “Mad Tea Party” from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Again, I feel like 21st century Alice! Also, a real-life mutual contradiction is that one cannot get a good job without good experience, but one cannot get a good experience without a good job. These contradictions all are like the chicken cannot come without the egg, but the egg cannot come without a chicken. There are so many contradictions we can think of, but philosophers and scientists cannot answer these contradictory theories. All events in this Universe are made by cause and effect according to the law of cause and effect. Then how did the first cause occur?

Stephen Hawking and Christopher Langan argue that “the egg came before the chicken”, but after Darwin’s “On the Origin Of Species” had been approved by human being these theories were thought to be incorrect. The egg coming first is not correct according to Theory of Evolution. Different philosophers provide different theories. Different countries’ philosophers provide different theories as well, but the religious books always provide same answers. Science keeps updating and scientific study helps us continually learn new information. Some time ago, scientists said that the modern chicken was believed to come from other birds: red jungle fowl. Recently scientist discovered the chicken has DNA from both the red junglefowl and the grey junglefowl. Scientists always discover new things. Every time when they discover new things, old theories will be denied.

Some scientists and religious people believe cause and effect, but not all living things exist by cause and effect; they believe that the first something exist from “none” by God. God made it from nothing, then which one did God make first, the chicken or the egg? Did he create birds along with the rest of the Universe? Islam teaches that God created everything in two pairs, so the chickens were made by God; eggs are not male or female. The Bible says that God created birds, and commanded them to multiply; but it didn’t directly mention eggs. The Hindu religion said creation of birds (and other life forms) are by God and we know that the chicken is a bird. All three religious books said bird was made by God.

Since I am a religious person, I believe that the answer is the chicken came before the egg. In Genesis chapter 1:21 says; So God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. Someone said that the word chicken is said before the words egg so chicken came before the egg. It’s not scientific evidence, but, it still is the historical evidence. Randy Garner said that “according to Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary(2001) the word ‘chicken’ is found on page 232, but word ‘egg’ is found on page 398″. So this also proves that chicken came before egg without question. I, myself did some research about this too. In the past, I asked a lot of people this question, and the majority of the people’s answer was chicken came first. When I ask why this is so, they don’t have an answer. They don’t know science or philosophy like this. For no apparent reason, people just feel this way. Our brain just functions that way. I believe that God created the chicken first; the egg came after.
