This I Believe
Share This Essay:
I believe that everyone should be themselves and not be afraid that their words, actions and even their appearance are not like everybody else’s.
A lot of people try to fit in and do what other people do. They try to look like somebody else, try to wear what they wear, walk the way they walk, and even center your life on the things that are important to other people. Sometimes they forget themselves because it’s not them it’s somebody else. You just pick a group of people and start taking after their ways and soon you forget that there is you and that you’re capable of doing your won things and things that other people don’t do. Everybody has to have their own ways and not try to mimic somebody else’s actions. A lot of people are afraid to be different, afraid that they won’t fit in with the rest. So little by little and you see how much the person has changed, or rather how much the people around him changed him. Sometimes you wish for the real person to be themselves and you just wait but nothing happens, and you forget that this person even had their own attitudes. You notice differences in appearance, in actions, and words, and it is difficult because you know that that person is really not like that.
A lot of people are afraid that someone might hurt their feelings because he’s not like the rest. So their only thing to do is be like the rest. I don’t like that solution. And the thing is, that people become not themselves because of the people around them. Someone insults you for your appearance because you’re not like the rest, and it happens a lot. Not just with appearance but with actions and even words. You say something that you thought was right and here everybody starts laughing, and you slowly start to hide inside your shell like a turtle and it’s hard for a lot of people to come out after any insults even a little joke could do a lot of harm to a person’s mind. It shouldn’t be that way but it is for many people, because they don’t know any other solution.
I know that you have to stand up for yourself. Even if somebody made a joke out of you, it doesn’t mean you have to hide. The joke means nothing. Think about the other person. They’re not better than you even if they seem to dress nice and act cool. They are rotten on the inside. Everybody has their own brilliant inside and you have to show it no matter what it takes. Close your eyes on things that make you want to hide inside your shell and stand in you place. Don’t try to prove yourself right with words. But show it in your everyday life, and people will see the real you, the brilliancy in your own self, not somebody else’s ways that might not be the greatest. Don’t think that if a person laughed at you , that everybody thinks the same thing, I am sure that some people, even if not everybody, like the real you. Inside you. Try to give your opinions and don’t fear that someone won’t like them. Speak you because someone will support you. Don’t look at one person who might not like you. Look at other people who are special in you like, and you in their, who want you to be the way you are. Each person is meant to be different. Meant to be themselves, and nobody on this planet can take your place because there’s only one you. Only you can do the things you do, the way you do, and only you can speak the way you speak. Great heroes became heroes because they were different. They showed their difference and didn’t try to be like the rest. They stated their opinions and didn’t care if someone put the down. Many can put you down but you have to get up again, because with hiding in your shell you can’t achieve anything, and when you climb out of that shell many great things can be done by you if you only try.
