This I believe

I believe that Marijuana should be legal in the United States. Pot is less harmful then certain legal substances like alcohol and cigarettes. Alcohol causes more deaths and serious problems then Marijuana, from car wrecks to drunk driving and alcohol poising.

Cigarettes which are legal cause more deaths and sicknesses then weed. They can cause many different forms of cancer unlike marijuana witch side effects consist of hunger and sluggishness. New research has proven that Marijuana is not linked to lung cancer “Even very heavy, long-term marijuana users who had smoked more than 22,000 joints over a lifetime have no greater risk than infrequent marijuana users or nonusers.” Said Salynn Boyles of WebMD Health News.

I have a friend who smokes Marijuana and has smoked it for a few years. Before he started he had straight A’s, played sports and was active in his church’s youth group. Nothing has changed since he started to smoke pot. He still goes to church plays sports and has A’s in all of his classes and overall is one of the nicest people I have ever met.

Of course there is a percentage of users that move on to a stronger substance after using Marijuana but the same situation could happen with someone who had started to drink. There are simply some people in the world with addictive personalities.

Another reason Marijuana should be legal is because we could make so much money off of it. There is thousands of people every day that buy and sell Marijuana if legalized we could tax it and make a large profit. “Marijuana legalization — replacing prohibition with a system of taxation and regulation — would save $7.7 billion per year in state and federal expenditures on prohibition enforcement and produce tax revenues of at least $2.4 billion annually if marijuana were taxed like most consumer goods. If, however, marijuana were taxed similarly to alcohol or tobacco, it might generate as much as $6.2 billion annually.” Said professor Jeffery Miron.

Marijuana doesn’t cause nearly as many problems as some legal substances; it could make millions to billions of money for our government, so why keep it illegal? I believe Marijuana should be legal so we can buy it smoke it and enjoy it legally.
