Mornings are not a happy time. They are cold, wet, and dark. Even if they were bright and warm most people are too tired to see anything but grey. When I get up I only have one thought in my mind: “my bed was so warm.” I slide out of my bed and begin to prepare for the day. Not only is the early morning world much more bleak than the rest of the day, I am also faced with the daunting truth that I’m being ripped from my blankets to go to school.
School in the early morning is similar to a cold slap. Having just woken up my mind is still imagining fluffy pillows; it is not prepared for the never ending information being tossed at me. It all is happening too fast and by the time I’m mentally ready to receive and produce random facts the first two periods of school have already passed. All I can remember from them is a random string of daydreams.
This weary daily routine has led me to draw the following conclusion. The day would be so much better if morning wasn’t included. Waking up with the sun isn’t nearly as warm as waking up after the sun. I believe in sleeping in.
This would also solve one of the most pointless problems in the world today: daylight savings. We would never have to move the clock’s time again. Just wake up at a reasonable hour and the sun will already be up! Summer or winter! And guess what, we would get to keep an hour more of sunlight in the evenings when we can actually have a chance to enjoy it.
I think life would be better if we all started our days a few hours latter. The morning routine would be so much more relaxed. I could enjoy getting up – not rushing my shower. I might get the chance to sit down for breakfast instead of grabbing an energy bar. Letting me take in more than just wet and cold as take my first step out the door might just help make the rest of the day a better one. The first impression of a person influences our feelings about them – so does the first impression of the day.
I believe that by moving my alarm back a few hours I would find the world a better place than it was before.
