I hope you will listen to what I must say,
And read out my poem, prepared for today,
And after you’re done I hope that you’ll see,
That I believe in the power of poetry.
When someone is sad and filled with despair,
A poem is there to show that you care,
It lightens the spirit and brightens the day,
And chases all the hopelessness of the world away.
A poem to me is like an anti-depressant,
A cheerful getup, a wonderful present,
It an be read at any time or any place,
And it always manages to bring a smile to my face.
For some, poems may be calming,
And others, a source of hope,
And for those who feel like they’re falling,
It could just be a way to cope.
Poems are for everyone,
They are not discriminatory,
So get your pencil and paper out,
And begin writing your own story.
Because poetry is powerful,
It reveals what we hide,
So I can say that I believe
That in poetry our true wills reside.
