This I Believe…
The long hours,
The sleepless nights,
The paper work, oh the paper work.
Everything a nurse deals with,
But it is nothing compared to the experience of everyday life.
The constant rushing from room to room,
Dealing with doctors who think they know everything,
And not having time to even catch my breath.
It is just another day in paradise,
Just another day of being a nurse,
Another day I fight back my tears
And my fears,
As I attempt to comfort my patients and their families.
Though I get paid for doing my job,
It is the smile on my patients face,
That is the real pay.
I may greet you with a smile on my face,
Or greet your with a frown,
But whichever way I greet you,
I will not let you down.
I promise to be there in every way I can,
And help you out when you need an extra hand.
I am not just licensed to do procedures,
I am licensed to care
And will do just that.
From the moment you roll in on a stretcher,
To the minute you walk out the door smiling,
waving back at me,
and saying thank you.
You are the reason I chose this career.
You are the reason I deal with the harsh hours
And the sleepless nights.
You are the reason I am a nurse.
This I believe, this I believe.
