This I Believe

I believe…

that all women are sisters to each other

and to the men who are brothers, one to another

I believe…

each person is completely unique – differing in beliefs, creeds, ethics, opinions, appearances

Viva la Difference!

I believe…

that people with differences can not only co-exist

but can respect and be thankful for the amusement that variety brings

I believe…

everyone is entitled to “please,” “thank you,” “excuse me,” “I’m sorry,” and “you’re welcome,”

unless they have proven themselves unworthy by failing or refusing to give it to those it is due

I believe…

you have a right to freedom of speech

but not a mandate that you exercise it

I believe…

in the relevance of what you have become

and in the irrelevance of what you once were

I believe…

that the most admirable social skill is being able to say “I was wrong”

instead of trying to justify and divert blame for one’s own mistake.

I believe…

the most damaging trait is the inability to step away from one’s vantage point just long enough

to see the view from another peak

I believe…

common courtesy has the power to open minds

as well as heal closed wounds

I believe…

everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt

until they are proven to be abusing that benefit

I believe…

most people have much more important things to do than waste their time

on scheming to manipulate others with every thing they say, write, or do.

I believe…

everyone is entitled to their own opinion

but none should feel compelled to express it

I believe…

the problem with a closed mind is that nothing makes it in

and nothing makes it out either

I believe…

everyone should reach out to mentor at least one child

and do an uninvited service for an elderly or disabled neighbor.

I believe…

those who are intent on seeing evil schemes in others

are often just catching the reflection of their own

I believe…

“The guilty dog always barks” applies to more than just

the after-effects of a bean and cabbage dinner

I believe…

the fact that our children do go astray is far less important

than the fact that most will eventually find their way back home

I believe…

just because a parent can raise their child alone

does not necessarily mean they should have to

I believe…

together or apart, the best thing for a child is to have the benefit

of two parents loving and nurturing them

I believe…

that a woman’s identity and worth is not dictated by having a man at her side,

the botox treatment she just had done, or the size of her bust (but we are getting warm)

I believe…

that a man’s identity and worth has nothing to do with the appearance of the woman at his side,

the size of his wallet, or the make and model of his car.

I believe…

the value of any person is determined by how they treat others,

not by how others treat them.

I believe…

one of the most precious gifts a father can give his children

is to love their mother.

I believe…

intelligence, ingenuity, integrity, diplomacy and sincerity make a good leader

and these qualities come in all genders, all races, all belief systems

I believe…

one of the biggest mistakes that people make over and over again

is looking into the eyes of a friend, but only seeing an enemy

I believe…

someday someone is going rise up and say what they mean and mean what they say

and say what they’ll do then do what they said
