I Believe That Dance is a Sport
A sport is an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess
and often of a competitive nature. Well, from this definition, dance
is definitely a sport. In order to dance you have to be athletic, you
have to practice, you have to have coordination, and even be
competitive. I believe that dance is a sport and no one will ever
change my mind about that.
Dance, just like football has rivalries. We go to many competitions
and have teams we want to beat. No, dance competitions are not a
really big deal to anyone besides family and close friends but they
are a ton of fun and there is always a ton of people there cheering
you on. Dance is just as time consuming as any other sport, just like
volleyball, baseball, football, ect. Unlike many sports, dance is a
year round commitment, rather than a season. To be a dancer you must
be extremely physically fit. Dancers work out just as much as any
other sport. We run, do sit ups, push-ups, and use weights, just as
any other sport would. We sweat and work very hard to get our routines
down perfect to a “T”. Also, like basketball players work on the same
shot over and over again, we do the same routine all year. We do it
over and over to get it right. Practice makes perfect. You need to
have coordination in order to dance just like a football player needs
it to catch the ball. Like a high school football team has their great
games, they also have their bad games. The same applies with dance.
There are some competitions you win and some you do not. Everyone has
their off days. You cannot always be perfect and you cannot always
I can see why people think that dance is not a sport. I mean, I know
we make it look easy, but as many people don’t know, it’s really quite
hard. When you really take a look and see how many things football and
dance have in common, you will see that dance truly is a sport.
Dancers work just as hard as any football player in the United States.
To conclude my thought’s my favorite quote in the world, “if dance
were any easier, it would be called football!”
