I believe that patriotism has little to do with
lapel pins and bumper > stickers. In fact, a true patriot knows enough about the nation’s flag > and the code that prescribes its correct care and display not to wear > a Tee shirt or leather jacket, bearing the image of our banner and not > even to wear jewelry (read lapel pin) that depicts the flag. > A shirt or blouse with red and white stripes, YES. White stars on a > blue scarf or necktie, YES. > I believe I express my patriotism by voting. I believe I care for my > country by picking up litter, by welcoming others who don’t look like > me into my city, by donating goods to a food bank, by supporting > schools and libraries, and YES, even by paying taxes.
