While writing this essay, I was challenged to put into words something that is so deep inside of me.
Growing up, I always went to church with my family. I guess you could say that God was always more around me then in me. In addition to going to church, I attended a Christian summer camp every year. The summer of my freshman year of high school while I was at camp, God revealed him self to me in a very big way. I was sitting around a campfire with twelve amazing girls who I had just spent the last two weeks of my life with; it was our last night of camp for that summer. Our counselors challenged us to take turns sharing a story about a time when God had been very visible in our lives. I sat and listened to all of my friends share remarkable stories about how God had worked in and through them. It was that moment when I realized that I wanted God in be in me, and to be the drive for all of my thoughts and actions rather than something I just thought about on Sundays and for two weeks of my summer. That night I made a commitment to seek God daily and to honor him with my life.
Ever since that night I have been blessed incredibly; I honestly cannot imagine my life without Him. When I entered into my spiritual journey I was passionate about the Lord, but I still had a very child-like faith. By reading my bible and spending time with God I have come to realize some important things. I believe that God is my savior, and that he sent his son down to earth to die for my sins. I also believe that only through asking the lord into my heart have I been set free of all of the chains that bound me for so long. I am now free to live for God, and I know that when my time on earth is done I will have a place in Heaven with Him.
I am so thankful that I have a God who cares about me, and loves me more than I can ever fathom. God has been my rock and my strength when I felt like my whole world was shaking. He is consistent, real, and always there. It is amazing to me that the same God that created all the Heavens and the earth also created me, and cares about me. For the rest of my life I will praise God and serve God.
