In this age of 24 hour news coverage, political sound bites and trash talk, it’s seems that, we are inundated with confusing ideas questioning what it means to live in America. As my children ask questions, how do I help them sift through the mixed messages and agendas while they formulate their own set of values? I thought maybe I’d try some common sense. Here goes;
Gun ownership is a privilege not a right. The bad guys will always have bigger, “badder” guns. That’s why they’re called “bad guys”.
Don’t join the army unless you’re prepared to kill or be killed to protect American business interests…..oh, and spread democracy.
If you want to live in America, speak English. If you want to live in France, speak French, etc., etc. Why is this so hard to contemplate?
The separation of Church and State is absolute.
The two party system has failed us but its made a lot of comedians very rich.
The most profound moment in American Presidential history was when Eisenhower warned of the Military-Industrial complex. Talk about inviting assasination.
A 2000 year old book, rewritten over and over with missing chapters is bound to have some inaccuracies.
Killing innocent people in the name of your God is, ironically, Satanic.
Most rich people did NOT earn their money and most poor people should have paid more attention in school. If you weren’t born with a silver spoon in your mouth, you should probably study hard, stay off drugs and use a condom.
If a cop tells you to “get on the ground”, it means get on the ground. You can sue him after the beating and the bystander’s video tape will you help win your case.
A woman has right to abort a perfectly viable fetus and carry that burden of guilt for the rest of her life. Until we stop dropping bombs on perfectly viable children, we haven’t much room to talk.
If you don’t want to have sex with a guy, don’t dress like you want to, get drunk and go back to his apartment. I have slightly similar advice for matadors.
Maury Povich and Dr. Phil have proven most people shouldn’t get married and even fewer should have children.
Considering the current divorce rate, if a gay couple can make it work, let them have a go at it.

The most powerful force on the face of the earth is a unified, informed American citizenry. Until we all realize that, nothing will change.
