I believe in taking the time out to enjoy the small, simple things in life. Without doing so, I do not think it is possible for one to live a fully enriched life.
When my sister and I were growing up we both did fairly well in school. Although, at this point, the workload was not as stressful, we did always complete our assignments and got good grades while still finding time to play games both outside and inside. To this day, my sister and I, no matter how busy our schedules may be, will always take time out to talk on the phone or meet up for a stroll and a cup of coffee. Our parents are also the same way. Both successful in their careers, they never missed out on my soccer games or my sister’s recitals. They always made sure to take the time out to enjoy family meals, for they knew that if they chose not to do this, their workload, and overall week in general, would seem a lot more tedious and stressful.
It always bothered me to be around people who are always so stressed and who never take the time out to just relax and enjoy the peace and quiet or enjoy simple time spent with family and friends. I look at my cousins in elementary school and middle school and I am amazed at how hectic their lives are, and how stressed out they get at such a young age; with all that is going on, they are completely left with no free time. I also observe the families around me and notice how some of my friend’s parents are living devoid lives because they put work over family and never take time out to talk or spend quality time with their loved ones. Perhaps they do not see it, but they are missing out on a crucial, necessary aspect of life.
Just as the old saying goes, “All work and no play makes for a very dull day.” I truly do believe it would benefit every one of us to take the time out of our busy days to enjoy the small, simple things in life. In such a hectic world, it may be all we need to do to reduce our stress, keep ourselves sane, and make ourselves happier.
