“From compromise and things half done/ Keep me with stern and stubborn pride/ And when at last the fight is won/ God, keep me still unsatisfied,” wrote Louis Untermeyer in his poem Prayer. Untermeyer describes his undying ambition and pride in life. Ambition keeps me going. It is what makes me strive to be my best. Also, my pride influences me in this way. I believe with steadfast ambition and a strong sense of pride, I will be successful throughout my life. I apply both of these qualities in my everyday life. It is apparent through my Job and my Soccer team.
Ever since I was little I flourished with ambition. When I was 15, and not legally able to obtain a job, I went and applied at the local Godfather’s Pizza. Admirable of my ambition, my boss hired me and I started after my 16th birthday. My boss hoped I would apply that ambition to the tasks I would have to be doing at my new position. I didn’t let him down. I have been working there for over a year now. Being the recipient of three raises, I am one of their most productive employees. Due to my boss’s confidence in me, I am assigned to train the new employees. He knows I will teach them well and have them on their way to becoming as ambitious as me. This is proof that I am hard working and always strive to do my best. Ambition and pride in my job have made me successful throughout my early working career.
Also I apply these two qualities on the soccer field. Without ambition, I would not have the drive to win games. When I first started playing on my current team, my coach noticed my dedication and leadership skills. I was quickly made captain. As captain it is my job to keep up the teams morale even when we are losing. If I didn’t have a sense of pride in my sport, it would be hard to achieve this task. Being one of the worst teams in the league, we don’t win many games. Its is a great feeling when we do win or at least hold the other team to a tie. When we don’t win games, I look at what we need to work on and then apply that through our next practice. This helps us be ready for our next game. My leadership skills on my soccer team are another example of how ambition and pride are apparent in my life.
Throughout my life, so far, I have been trusted with a numerous amount of leadership opportunities. I believe this is due to my ambition and pride. My boss noticed it as well as my soccer coach. As I journey through life I will keep those two important qualities. They will benefit me for when I get another job, go to college, and so forth. Pride and ambition are the most beneficial traits a person could have.
