This I Believe Essay
Water balloons, prizes, laughter, kids I’ve met and kids I don’t know. Spider-man and flower tattoos, and faces painted different colors. The joy of seeing everyone happy on a hot summer day, made me realize what I was doing was not only for kids in the hospital, but for the kids that lived in the neighborhood and all around the area. I realized that if I can put a smile on kids faces that are doing just fine, I can make the kids that are ill smile just as big. I believe helping others can go a far distance. From working at carnivals to raise money for sick children to world wide causes, helping people in need is something I love to do. It doesn’t matter what the situation is as long as I can help that person in any way. I like helping others because it hurts me to see people upset, angry, poor, starving, etc., and knowing that I’ve done something good makes my heart warm with happiness. Examples of what I have done to help people are girl scouts, carnivals for children’s hospital, raising money for starving kids in Africa, feeding the less fortunate in downtown, and more. I think that joining activities or groups like girl scouts or cross fire [church group] the Red Cross [for donating blood], and running for breast cancer are just one of many ways you can start to help others around you. You don’t always have to go big with helping others, you can always just start off small like donating old clothing, dolls, furniture, help out in food drives, or giving advice. I like to relate to what I believe in to the saying ‘A smile is contagious’. That saying means that if you smile or give a complement to someone or even saying hi to them can change their attitude and make them happy and positive about their life. Their positive attitude than spreads onto another person, who than spreads it onto someone else, and so on. Helping someone is just like smiling to someone, it sends out a positive attitude and than spreads everywhere. I personally feel that one person can make a huge impact on the life around us. I think that if we take more time out of our own lives we can make a difference in our society.
