Angelina and Emilio met before the BIG ONE, WWII. The misery of miles only strengthened the two. They called each other Mommy and Daddy, so did I. Daddy had no close friends. He seemed to need only one other person-Mommy. From time-to-time, when Mommy was away, Daddy wouldn’t sleep or eat. I remember him saying, “It’s so lonely here, I can’t wait till Mommy comes home”. Once reunited, life was good again. At the end, Daddy recognized no one but Mommy. Every night Mommy climbed into bed next to Daddy and slept by his side to comfort him. Mommy remained at his side even in death. Just the two of them.
