I believe in the power of words. Especially those words that are written as poetry. Poetry literally has saved my life and my sanity several times.
When my father died suddenly in 2000, he left me with many unresolved issues. His life was brought back to me as I wrote poem after poem about him.
The poems were at first angry and sad and frustrated pieces. They expressed things I could not.
Now seven years later I have written a poem about my father and it is a soft and golden memory of him. I realized the power of poetry to heal me and to literally write him back into my life.
Feelings translated into words can change our hearts.
