This I believe
I believe in radical primitive christianity.
I believe in enjoying your manic episodes but medicating anyway.
I do not believe in God unless I am medicated.
I believe that so much depends
a red wheel
glazed with rain
beside the white
I believe that race trumps class.
And I believe William Julius Wilson may be a Black Phoenix Rising.
I believe that Stokely Carmichael and Martin Luther King and William Edward Burghardt Du Bois were on to something. And that it was the same thing.
I believe that people can change, and that they don’t wait until the end to write it all down.
I believe that Karl Marx changed.
I believe in black foster parents adopting white kids but not the other way around.
I believe in my kids. And their blackness. And my whiteness.
I believe in letting your lovelight shine.
I believe that love is not all you need.
I believe in letting people live.
I believe in letting people die.
I believe in unresolved tension and the ubiquity of essential mystery….
