Hard Work
Different people have different ways of handling situations. Whether it is working hard to accomplish something, or taking the easy way out, everyone is different. Personally, I like it more when I get something done the right way. It may take me longer, but I get satisfaction out of a job well done. I believe in hard work.
When I was younger, my parents always preached to me that it’s best to do things the right way. If it isn’t getting done right, than its not worth doing at all. I was brought up this way, and live by it everyday. I do my schoolwork with intentions of getting every problem right. I play sports with intentions to win. I do everything with intentions of doing it better than anyone else. I do all these things to prepare myself for when I will need these skills in the future. I don’t know where I’m going to be in fifteen years, but what I do know is that I will be ready. Hard work is preparing me for that time.
This year, there was an opportunity to win a scholarship to a camp in Washington DC. I wrote a paper on my most profound experience in high school so far. I put a lot of effort and emotion into my essay. I knew this was a great opportunity, and I couldn’t put forth less than 100% of my best effort. My hard work paid off and I was chosen as a Top-5 finalist out of almost 180 students that applied. My next requirement was to prepare a resume showing my leadership skills. This meant that my work ethic from previous experiences would pay off. I prepared my resume, and also went above and beyond. I received a letter of recommendation that helped to portray how well of a fit I was for the scholarship.
I won the scholarship and will be going to our nation’s capital later this year. This opportunity is a reinforcement showing me that giving my best effort pays off. I believe my work ethic is what won me that scholarship. I believe if everyone had a great work ethic, the world would be a much better place. With more people achieving greater things, everyone would be better off.
