Freshman year I decided to join the soccer team. That year we did well enough to go undefeated the whole season. One thing I noticed about our team is that we never gave up which always led to a victory. That’s why I believe its not over till its over.
At our homecoming game, the season was coming to an end and we all hoped to keep our perfect record. The whole game was back and forth until we finally scored near the end of the first half. We held them the entire game but with ten minutes left in the second half they scored tying it 1 to 1. For the next couple of minutes they held the ball in our half. When there was only 3 minutes left in the game my coach called me to go in, a sign that my coach had given up, considering I wasn’t a starter and rarely played at all. However, I was still excited to play and wanted to impress the coach so I didn’t plan on giving up. As soon as I went in one of my teammates threw me the ball. I looked up field. It was wide open. I sprinted downfield as fast as I could. The clock read 12 seconds. I crossed the ball in front of the goal. The ball fell through the air and I prayed someone would be there. Luckily a teammate was and he headered the ball into the back of the net.
At the end of the game I didn’t get much of the glory but that’s ok because I know I tried my hardest till the very end which led to our win. This event is what convinced me to believe it’s not over till its over. I now understand that I can’t just go through life giving up when things get rough. I should stick with it and apply myself, and eventually I will come out on top. You can predict but you won’t ever truly know what’s going to happen at the last moment, that’s why it’s important to be persistent till the very end.
