I was given an Album “Sketches of Spain” by the trumpeter ” Miles Davis.” Griff, my classmate exclaimed one afternoon,” you can have it.” After having played an excerpt from the LP. I almost trip down the stairs as I was awestruck by the grift I was given, in 1963. I didn’t know that Miles had his apprenticeship under the tutleage of Charlie Parker, who was my idol in 1948 Miles formed his own quintet. Tempus Fugit! In 1961″Sketches of Spain” was released, and became “Jazz Albumof the year”
In 1978 while lflipping through a pile of my cousins records, there in my hand was “Sketches of Spain.”
