This I believe: knowing facts makes me a recording medium like an IPod or digital video recorder. Thinking puts me into competition with ever more capable machinery that, sooner than later, will surpass any human or group in ability to relate known things in unique combinations that lead to novel conclusions. But, only because I believe, therefore I am. It is what I believe based on my particular experiences that make me truly human. My beliefs can be recorded and analyzed by advanced machines, but never validated. Only other human beings, each with unique beliefs, can evaluate the bases on which I conduct my life. Believing is what makes us human.
