This I Believe…
I believe that adults in today’s society underestimate the youth of America. Many “grown ups” look to the days of their childhood and say to themselves “those were the good ole days.” It seems like all the adults look at the world around us today and think we’re all going to “hell in a hand basket.” They see kids driving around playing there music entirely too loud and they have a conniption. Just the other day I was stopped at a red light and I saw an older look and me and just shake her head like I was doing something wrong. The higher authority that is the adults of the world hinder on the fact that we enjoy loud music, and they translate that to mean that we cannot become effective and productive members of society. I’m sure they all liked their REO Speedwagon and Led Zeppelin a little louder than their parents did.
Adults think that we waste out time on computers and other electronic devices. I guess they haven’t realized that that is our future. That’s how we are going to succeed past other nations. Our time is not always spent on facebook or myspace. I myself use other applications on the computer. Today’s society needs to give us kids a little more credit and an even bigger break.
In the years our parents were in school a college education was nice but not always required. We know that we have to word hard to get through in the real world. We know what we NEED a college education for a career. And yet the previous generation of folks fails to realize that we are smart enough to know that we have things we must do.
I believe that adults in today’s society underestimate the youth of America. It’s from a standpoint of bias and fear. The fear that this world is changing and the youth are already in full motion with this new society. Adults feel threatened that they have to ask us how to use these new contraptions, while we can work them with our eyes closed. They fear that because standards are changing that must remain constant, but unlike us they have yet to realize we all need change. Because today’s society is mutating and we are taking over. Adults need to put a little more faith into the youth because we’re the ones who are going to be taking care of them.
