I DON’T UNDERSTAND

I don’t understand

electing a man who undermines the American way.

I don’t understand

following a man who contradicts all words in play.

I don’t understand

how you honor a man who takes from the children, the elderly and poor.

I don’t understand

celebrating men, who mislead our kids to war.

I don’t understand

a populous that hangs on the words they say.

I don’t understand

just hanging in there while our rights get chipped away.

I don’t understand

a President who boast “of the have and have mores”

I don’t understand

my fellowman, which continues to adore.

I don’t understand

a flood response that hangs them out to dry,

I don’t understand

a flood response that let’s my people die.

I don’t understand

my countrymen who spy on nearby friend,

I don’t understand

the politics of do anything to win.

I don’t understand

the reluctance to set the record straight,

I don’t understand

posturing in view of Watergate.

I don’t understand

our crossing the street to avoid healthcare and more

I don’t understand

righteous indignation that says, “Thank God that I’m not poor.”

The righteous indignation that says, “Nobodies keeping score!”

It’s time to understand,

and speak up while we can.

It’s time to understand,

and love our fellowman.

Its time to make our leaders practice what they preach,

if they can’t live up to standards, remind them they’re not beyond our reach.
