THIS, I BELIEVE
I believe that throughout all time
Poetry helps make life sublime
No need for a plot, just a beautiful thought
And the great satisfaction of rhyme.
I believe that the stuff called free verse
To call it a poem is a curse
The wise person knows, if there’s no rhyme, it’s prose
Maudlin, effete, maybe worse.
I believe that rhyme is the key
To the beauty found in poetry
So let’s not admire the free versifier
And give credit to rhymers like me!
