This I Believe….
I believe in the power of love. It’s the power of love that holds families together with a bond so tight nothing on this planet can cut through it. It’s the power of love that causes us to do crazy things. Not too long ago my mom was diagnosed with some type of arthritis on her feet. It’s the power of love that she had for us that kept her going. Yet there was a time when she could barely walk, that is where my power of love came in.
Since my mom was having difficulty doing regular day-to-day chores I had to do most of them. My love for my mother and her well-being helped me become more responsible and start acting more mature for my age. After a while of doing these chores I started to get used to them and even started to have some fun once in a while. I would do most chores that required her to stand like mopping and sweeping the house. Sometimes I would even turn down going to the mall or movies with my friends so I could help my mom clean the house. Love and support from my family and I have kept her going all these years. Now it seems that it starting to pay off because currently she is not only working one job at a Mexican Food restaurant, she is also a Substitute T.A. for the Chaffey District. Thanks to the power of love she is starting to become the mom I knew long ago.
Like I said the power of love is so strong that I couldn’t be the only one affected by it and I was right. On my way back from Mexico (about one year ago) I was listening to a C.D. that contained real life stories. One of the stories really stuck out and showed how strong the power of love really is not only for me but for everyone in this world. There was once a girl who lived in Mexico and at around the age of thirteen or so she was diagnosed with a deadly heart disease. She continued with life as normal and even started to make a tight bond with her father. One day about a month before her fifteen she asked her Dad a question, “Dad what are you going to get me for my fifteenth birthday”. Her father never replied he just smiled and hugged her. Two weeks before her birthday grief stuck. The girl needed a heart transplant as soon as possible or else she would die. Now in the end a heart was found and the transplant was a success. Yet when the girl woke up and asked for her father, all her mother did was smile and hand her a letter. It was from her father saying he had finally figured out what he was going to give her for her birthday. LIFE.
It’s the power of love for his daughter that led him to the decision of giving of his own heart, his own life so that his daughter could live longer. It’s the power of love that has been helping my mom recuperate (something the doctors here said wasn’t going to be easy). At one point my mom could barely walk now “if she has to” she can even start to run. It’s the power of love that helped me realize that my mom needed me and helped me become a much more responsible and mature person. All these things and so much more occurred because of the power of one simple word spelled L.O.V.E. Love.
