I blieve that our nation needs to find middle ground for the disabled. I have Aspergers Syndrome and I am quite able to work. I was also quite able to work hard and receive a Bachelors Degree and a Masters Degree. However, I have been unable to keep a steady job that pays a wage comenserate with my education. This is due to my disability.
A problem arises because the jobs I can get and keep pay just enough to feed me and keep a roof over my head. They do not allow for me to pay my college loans and my graduate school loans.
The government agencies calim that they will forgive the loans if one is diabled but they define disability as inability to work in any way shape or form. This I believe that the policy is unfair.
I am disabled and I can work and choose to do everything to the limit of my abilities to succeed in society. But I need help and I need some middle ground to exist where I can work and do my best while still getting government assistance or at very least forgiveness of my loans.
I am living hand to mouth as are so many others and we just want to make it. I believe that it is wrong to not perform to the best of ones abilities, but I also believe that without some middle ground the government is forcing people to give up and become societal cripples unable and unwilling to do anything.
So hire me and pay me a decent wage. The kind of wage befitting someone with a good work ethic who has acheived post collegiate level education. Because it is getting hard to make it and I feel as if the nation wants me to give up and become a burden to society as so many before me have done.
This I believe, Our nation needs a middle ground for the disabled in their midst.
