This I believe

Everyone needs a hobby, right? Something to occupy your time and something you have fun doing. Every person needs one. Well I like many people have had trouble finding one that I am good at and actually enjoy doing. I believe that it is a parent’s job to help their children find that hobby. Parents are supposed to be the biggest influence on a child’s life. Part of the nurturing is helping them find something that they enjoy.

My parents have helped me through my entire life to find my hobby. I have tried many different activities such as baseball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, wrestling, singing, guitar, trumpet, and biking. One of which actually caught my fancy. My bike. Although my sport is expensive my parents have always helped me to keep my bike running, whether it was fronting me the money for a part or paying my hospital bills. Recently I was attempting a complicated trick, it went completely wrong and I ended up with a torn eyelid. My parents took time out of their work schedules to take me to doctors all over Chicago and Evanston, trying to get it fixed. I ended up having to go to Northwestern University Hospital to get my eyelid sown back together, but it was not that bad because my dad was there with me the entire time. They have guided me through the whole time. If it weren’t for my parent’s guidance, I would not have been able to continue riding.

I believe that parents need to embrace their child’s legal hobbies. Everyone needs a hobby, and if one’s hobby is not embraced it will not grow and eventually the child will be forced to come up with something new and it may not be in his or her best interest to continue with their new pastime, especially if they loved their prior hobby. Families as a whole need to help each other throughout their lives, they need to embrace the activities that they take part in and try to involve themselves as much as possible.
